Catherine Spurritt is as a passionate learner, chai latte-drinking, travel loving francophile. You may know Cath from her work as a French teacher at Avila College, or from her contribution to the Executive of the Modern Language Teachers Association of Victoria (MLTAV). This year, Cath has joined the CEM Languages team as a consultant and will be supporting teachers engaged in our many professional learning projects.
At the beginning of her career, Cath was introduced to the AIM methodology which has shifted her thinking about what language learning might look like. She is a dynamic educator who loves sharing her classroom experiences with others. Cath is an experienced middle leader, with experience both as a Curriculum Leader and Year Level Coordinator. She is also committed to ongoing learning and is currently undertaking a Masters of Educational Leadership at ACU.
"Because of my own curiosity for languages... I have experienced the kindness of strangers both at home and far away. When I travel with students, they always comment that I will start a conversation with anyone, anytime, anywhere. Engaging with the personal narratives of strangers builds understanding, compassion and tolerance. These are also the fundamental attributes that I seek to foster in my language learners."
