This program aims to assist teachers to achieve the Victorian Curriculum standard for languages which aims for students to use spoken language for purposeful classroom interactions and transactions by the end of the introductory cycle of learning.
Extensive support is included, designed to build teacher capacity to effectively plan, introduce and use high frequency, functional classroom language. This focus is an essential element of providing comprehensible modelling of target language for students and will help increase both teacher and student use of target language for spontaneous classroom communication. Teachers will be guided in the use of explicit goal-setting, aiming for students to achieve functional classroom competency in the target language within the first semester of study. Teachers will be given the tools to use a coaching approach through which they will assist students to become more autonomous, setting their own learning targets, monitoring their own progress and expanding their personal learning strategies to ensure they achieve their objectives. |
